Eternal Man Books

This series of novels follows the lives of a wizard who is reborn with all his memories each time he is killed, making him eternal.

I finished the first book, The Eternal Man, during NaNoWriMo 2018, and the second one, New Magics, during NaNoWriMo 2021.

The Eternal Man is set in colonial New England just before the start of the Revolutionary War. Richard is killed while trying to help a young couple get away from a group of bandits. He is reborn as Caleb to a couple in Menotomy--now Arlington, Massachusetts--just east of Lexington and Concord. Richard--now Caleb--had been guarding a powerful spirit of chaos from being released in the world. Now the bandits could have the key to accidentally releasing that spirit. But Caleb is just a baby. Memories or no, he can't just go looking for them to prevent that disaster.

While he grows up, Caleb enlists his new family and friends to help him discover that the spirit has in fact been released, triggering the start of the Revolutionary War. He must recapture the spirit and bring the power-hungry leader of the bandits to heel in order to shorten the greater chaos that the spirit would cause if left unchecked.

Status: Gathering beta reader feedback

I'm actively looking for people to read the first draft of this story. Let me know if you are interested and I'll send you a link.

The second story in the series, New Magics, takes place at the edge of the American frontier in the 1820s, just north of St. Louis. Caleb has has set up a homestead in a remote part of the country and has been learning new magic from the local people. His sister Lizzy gets word that Caleb is sick and she arrives to find him dying. The events in The Eternal Man make it unclear to her or Caleb if he will be reborn this time.

After Caleb passes, Lizzy must find her way as the new guardian of the spirit, unsure if she's up to the task. She finds her strength with the help of local people, building a community equally worth protecting in the process. The story takes place in the backdrop of the expansion of slavery and the conflict of white expansion into indigenous lands. With Black Hawk about to go to war, Lizzy must find a way to maintain the multicultural community she finds herself as the leader of in order to continue to guard the spirit, and hold out hope that Caleb was reborn and will find his way back to her--to relieve her of this role she doesn't feel capable of.

Status: Draft complete, ready for first editing round

You can't read this one yet. It's still a rough mess, although it has good bones. If you read the first story, and like it, I'll be motivated to edit this one for beta readers sooner.
